How Do People Make Money With Online Poker?

By Nelson Hawthorne

This might sound unbelievable but there are literally thousands of individuals across the globe that make their living in online poker rooms and casinos. Sounds exciting doesnt it? Would you like to be one of them? Before you make up your mind, lets take a quick look at some aspects that might affect or influence your decision. But right at the start its important to understand that the only way to gaining poker skill is through practice.

You may be a good a poker player but you have to realize that luck too plays a part. There will be days when lady luck will be on your side and you will win large sums of money, however, there will also be days when your skills will be rendered useless as you lose large amounts. All that was exciting may not seem so, as you spend several hours in front of your computer trying to outwit others with your cards, but patience is the key.

Working as a full time poker player is not an easy game. First and foremost you need to have excellent poker skills. Apart from that, you need to know when to call it a day, as this technique is what separates the amateurs from the pros. Players who can handle and manage their bankrolls efficiently and smartly are the ones that rule this game. Those who cant are the ones who lose all they have and walk out stripped of all their cash.

Many poker players that are considering turning pro believe that real pros play for very high stakes. This is not the case. Since your goal is to earn a living, that should remain the focus. This is easily accomplished by playing at $1/$2 hands. Its true that you stand to earn big amounts when you play high stake games but then youre just as likely to lose big amounts.

Choosing this as a profession can be risky and the best way to assess your ability and suitability is when youve played it for enough years to have stats you can analyze to see if youre likely to make profits. If the stats reveal that you arent profitable as a part-timer, then its best you forget about being a full-timer.
