Recently I had a friend tell me about a poker tournament that he wanted to play in. He was excited that the starting stacks for each player was 10,000 chips. That was all he said so I asked him, What are the starting blinds? He just looked at me with confused look and said, I dont know, but we get to start with 10,000 chips!

Being blinded by the advertised starting stack size is common for many poker tournament players. The problem is that there are no rules about what a starting stack should be and there are no rules regarding the starting blinds or even the blind structure. A poker tournament that starts with 10,000 chips may have starting blinds that are 25/50, which would make it very deep-stacked, or it could have starting blinds of 100/200, which is relatively short-stacked.

Of course, there are poker players that can specialize in short-stack tournaments. They take the opportunity to aggressively steal blinds and push small edges. However, the majority of players feel more comfortable when they have a deep stack. So, it is important to consider the starting blinds and the blind structure when deciding on a tournament to play.

Generally, the cheaper the tournament, the shorter the starting stacks will be. A $50 daily tournament at a casino will normally be very short-stacked with a quick blind structure compared with a $500+ special event tournament. The reason is that the casino wants to make as much money in the shortest amount of time. They are not making much money with a $50 tournament so they want it end quickly.

8. Ole Miss Rebels. I see this team starting out at #8, and Jevon Snead should be a driving force in 2009. He also has Tim Tebow figured out, so anything can happen in a game against the Gators. Don't sleep on the Rebels.

7. ACC's - Virginia Tech. The Hokies had a good chance to repeat as ACC champs until they lost their starting HB for the season. They had a mediocre season finishing 9-4. This season 9-4 might win the ACC but will be no where near close to be in the top ten or the National Title game.They will need to beatAlabama, Miami, Georgia Techand Nebraska to even be consideredfor the title which they will be lucky to beat 3 of the 4.At best, Virginia Tech will fall to the Gator Bowl against the Big East or Notre Dame.

6. Big 10's - Ohio State. The buckeyes have a good chance to make it to the National Title. They must go undefeated or lose a close one to a really good team like USC or Penn State and hope no one else goes undefeated. Above all, They need to beat USC when they visit in week 2 to establish they are ready for prime time with returning sophomore QB Terrell Pryor. They must avoid an upset loss to Minnesota and Penn State. If they miss the Title Game they definitely should make the the Rose bowl against the Pac Ten if they can defeat Penn State and send them to the Capital One Bowl against a SEC team.

5. Alabama. Yet another team that could easily compete for the BCS championship. Alabama should coast through most of the season, save for its match-ups against LSU, the Vols, and the Rebels. While an undefeated season is unlikely, the team's finish shouldn't be too far off.

4. USC. The hardest game for USC will take place against the Buckeyes, which takes place during once of the first few weeks. This is a young team and will be tested many times throughout the season. Still, there's plenty of talent to go around and this team could go all the way.

3. Big 12's - Oklahoma. Oklahoma Sooners are a big favorite to upset Texas and represent the Big 12 in the Championship game. With returning Heisman winner Bradford and a returning receiver lineup that put up record numbers last year. Oklahoma has a tough schedule including BYU, Miami, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, and Oklahoma St, whom allthey should defeat.Oklahoma's only speed bump and possible detour will be Texas in week 6. The winner of that game will represent 1 half of the BCS title game. If they miss the Title game they will more than likely play in theFiesta Bowl against the ACC or Undefeated WAC/MAC team.

2. Big 12's - Texas. Texas Longhorns are the other big favorite to represent the Big 12 in the title game. They have essentially the same schedule as Oklahoma and are returning most of their starters on offense, including standout QB Colt McCoy,and defense. Week 6 against Oklahoma will determine which bowl game they will reserve in January, the Orangeor BCS title game. Likely to lose one game in an upset.

1. Florida. As long as Tim Tebow is on the team, there's no reason to discount this team's ability. Almost all of the entire team last season (besides Harvin and Nelson) is back for another season, and Florida has the experience and the talent to go all away. The Gators are the favorites entering the season.

The Dallas Cowboys are an NFL team in the Eastern Conference of the National Football Conference. The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. Since then, the Dallas Cowboys have been one of the most successful teams in NFL history. They have won five Super Bowl championships and have been conference champions eight times.

However, past success does not guarantee future victories, a fact brought home last season with a humiliating loss to division rival Philadelphia, ending the season and forcing the Cowboys to watch the playoffs from home. The result is that the Cowboys organization has to make some serious moves in order to put another contender on the field for the 2009 season.

Some of the offseason moves by the team include releasing problem players Adam "Pacman" Jones, Terrell Owns and Tank Johnson, realizing that they weren't producing much more than noise and bad publicity, and will make Roy Williams the primary receiver. He should be assisted by Miles Austin and Patrick Crayton to make up for the loss of Owens.

The Cowboys defense may be weaker in 2009 than in 2008. In 2008, the defense was 20th in points allowed and were repeatedly devastated by teams with strong running games. The 2009 draft did not do much to fill these significant disadvantages in the Dallas Cowboys' defense. The Cowboys failed to shore up the holes in their secondary and defense line.

There were a few bright spots in the 2009 draft. One of the smartest picks was Robert Brewster, who is an offensive tackle from Ball State. In addition, the Cowboys acquired Michael Hamlin, who is a safety from Clemson. It remains to be seen if, and when, any of these players will have a positive impact on the team.

The Cowboys are looking for more than just a few roster moves to put the past season behind them. During offseason workouts, the Cowboys were thumped by a windstorm that blew through Texas on May 2 and destroyed a practice facility, injuring a dozen players and coaches. The organization is looking forward to their new stadium opening on September 20th to try and get the entire team back on track.

Most forecasters agree that Dallas should have early season successes. Unfortunately, the team's defense will be tested early by the Carolina Panthers' formidable running game, and often during a grueling five game stretch that will end the season. The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles will be especially tough games. Considering Dallas' recent history of late season collapses, during which they have not had a winning record in December since 1996, it will be hard for them to make the playoffs. However, if they can start out strong early in the season, then it is very possible that the Dallas Cowboys can achieve the success that has eluded them over the last few years.

Painting a thangka requires a mastery over a variety of drawing skills and an in-depth understanding of Tibetan Buddhism. Subtle hints are incorporated into every detail on the image.

Thangkas are divided into two major types: "Bris-Tang" and "Go-Tang." The differences between these two are the materials used and the methods of manufacture.

"Bris-Tang": Thangkas that are painted are called "Bris-Tang." The five specific types of this category are: Multi-Colored, Gold Background, Vermilion Background, Black Background, and Block Printing "Bris-Tang."

"Go-Tang": Thangkas that are made of silk or decorated with embroidery are called "Go-Tang." This category includes: Embroidery, Applique, Glued Applique, Hand-Woven, and Block Printing "Go-Tang."

There is a strict rule concerning the use of colors on thangka. Different colors are used to denote different themes or different characters. Red is often the main color for thangkas depicting the life stories of the Buddha. Black is mostly used to depict gods whose main duty is subjugating evils. Blue is employed when the emphasis is on joyous events. Green is used to represent activity. And white symbolizes peace and compassion.

Tiger's Disappointment to the Golf World

Y.E. Yang shocked the world and probably himself by beating the world's best golfer, and maybe the greatest golfer of all time, Tiger Woods, by coming back from 2 strokes down Sunday to win the PGA Championship. Yang is the first Asian player to win a Major, the first player to beat Tiger Woods when Woods was tied or all alone in the lead after 54 holes of golf. Golf enthusiasts cheered, David took down Goliath, 12 never struck for Cinderella, No. 110 took down No. 1.

Yay? I don't think the PGA, it's sponsors, or the casual golf fan are very happy. Tiger Woods in the starter, middle reliever, and closer for the PGA. Without Tiger, as we saw last year, no one cares. Now, people are getting the feeling that Tiger has lost it. He didn't win a major this year and pretty much choked away the PGA Championship after missing the cut at the British Open.

Woods hasn't regressed as much as people like to think. He's still won a very impressive five tourneys in 2009, and has staged some remarkable comebacks this year. Only the more serious fans realize this, but the media will be all about Tiger's lack of a major in 2009.

For the short-term, Yang's victory makes for an interesting story and may feed the media with some fuel for now. But the 2009 PGA season is devoid of stories. A lack of a Tiger win, and Tom Watson's falling short at the British Open both make for some major disappointments compared to what could have been.

This one is another story in its own though. Yang is very unlikely to win another tournament of this scope, and will probably fade right back into obscurity. And for the time being, Woods' pursuit of Jack Nicklaus' record is in doubt.

And for the 2009 golf season, there's not exactly much that fans can look forward to at this point. Will a Fedex Cup tournament excite them? Not exactly. There's really not much to look for.

Tiger must bounce back in 2009. He is the face of the PGA, and any story lines lacking Tiger Woods will do anything but help the sport grow.

Here's to hoping that 2010 brings us a Tiger resurgence, and most notably, a major or two. The sport really needs it.
