Choosing A Cricket Set

By Michael Bolderwood

There are plenty of us who still look back fondly on the thought of receiving our first cricket set. It seems that few things can compete with the excitement of batting and bowling. Since cricket is still one of the most popular sports around, it's no surprise that so many people still like to buy new cricket sets every year.

There are lots of options available to you, as you'll know if you've looked to buy such a set. It's vital that you choose something that's well suited to both your budget and your cricketing abilities. It's great if you can manage to buy something that contains all that you need and that is available at a reasonable price. Let's take a look at what you might look for in a set.

A lot of people buy new sets for children and it's vital that the equipment should be of the correct size. Kids won't get the most out of the game if they use adult kid. They're likely to find it extremely frustrating and may well get injured if playing with a heavy bat and hard ball. It's much more sensible to look for lighter options, allowing them to enjoy the game without fear of injury.

Adults are most likely to want a full-size cricket set, including a bat, ball and at least one set of stumps, plus bails. You may not be aware that bats come in different weights. Heavier bats may make it easier to play big strokes, but it's important that you buy one that you're going to be happy to use. Always try holding it before you buy and make sure that the bat is solid. There's nothing worse than seeing the handle come away from the main blade.

Those who are most serious about the sport will certainly want a cricket set that includes pretty much everything. The most important elements will include a ball, bats, stumps, bails and a bat. Don't forget about protective pads too, especially if you'll be playing competitively. Some people forget about cricket gloves, but these are really important for protecting your hands and allowing you to bat with freedom.
