Dwyane "Flash" Wade Revealed

By Louis Porta

Dwyane Tyrone Wade Jr. was born on January 17, 1982. He currently plays for the Miami Heat in the NBA. His nicknames are Flash and D-Wade. Wade was named 2006 Sportsman of the year.

Wade has a huge fan base that extends well above and beyond those who like the Miami Heat. Fans of all teams seem to love Wade and his explosive style of play. In fact, from 2005 through 2006, more Wade jerseys sold than Kobe jerseys, LeBron jerseys, or those of any other NBA player.

Wade was part of a very talented rookie class that included the likes of LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and others, but Wade has never disappointed the Miami Heat. Right out of the gates, he became the team's leading scorer and was largely responsible for their first ever NBA title in 2006.

Wade has also found success with the US Olympic teams. While the 2004 campaign was unsuccessful (the US just won a bronze), Wade bounced back strong in 2008, helping the US basketball team to a gold in China.

Wade is a unique guard in the sense that he can play both shooting guard and point guard. His versatility allows him to do this. He's one of the fastest ball handlers in the league as well.

Wade led the NBA in scoring during the 2008-2009 season after an injury-ridden 2007-2008 campaign. He also led the Heat back to the playoffs last season.

Wade is able to get to the free throw line seemingly at will; he ranked first in free-throw attempts per 48 minutes in 2004-05 and again in the 2006-07 season. He has proven himself an unselfish player, averaging 6.4 assists per game. Wade is a devout Christian and chose the number 3 because it represents the Holy Trinity.

Wade has a wife (Siohvaughn) and two young children, Dwyane Jr. and Zaire. His wife dates all the way back to his childhood.
