Nintendo Wii: Why You Should Get One

By Rahul Gupta

If you are an avid video gamer then you will understand that the latest gaming consoles available are: Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. The PS3 and 360 have many similarities, yet the Nintendo Wii is totally different in so many ways. The Wii is one of the highest selling video game consoles ever produced.

Nintendo's Wii has Xbox 360 and PlayStation by Sony as its direct competitors. All three of these video games consoles have done well, but Nintendo's video games always have a technical edge over the others. Nintendo's Wii comes from 7th generation of video games and this console is a home console of video games.

Nintendo decided to make a console that would appeal to a wide market: young and old. Up until the Wii, there wasn't a console on the market that pulled in the older generation. Sitting in front of a TV tapping a gamepad didn't appeal to older adults. Yet the Nintendo Wii's style and depth of interactive gameplay has got a lot of older adults interested in video gaming. You don't have to look far to see why, having a console that allows you to enjoy activities such as cricket, tennis, golf, running, exercising, snowboarding, gym work outs and much more. The Wii is a family console that everyone can enjoy. It can also play GameCube games, its backwards compatible.

The console comes with a Wii Remote and a Nunchuk, the Wii Remote is a wireless device and the Nunchuk plugs into it for additional activities. The controllers track every minor movement you make; this is how you interact with games. An accessory pack is available; attach a tennis racket or baseball bat to the Wii Remote for additional realism. The Wii also comes with online features, which are again totally different from what the other two consoles have to offer. WiiConnect24 requires an internet connection, it's totally free to use (unlike Xbox Live), and has many impressive features.

The Wii is the fifth console produced by Nintendo and it should be noted that it's their best, something the Nintendo Wii's sale figures would line-up with. The console became available in November 2006; to date the console has sold over 56 million units worldwide.
