Choosing a Tennis Net

By Jonathon Hardcastle

If you are an avid tennis player, you may want to turn your backyard into a tennis court. Even if you don't want to go with an expensive complete tennis court, you can still buy a tennis net to use at home or even a portable one to take to local courts with missing nets.

When buying a tennis net, you get a net that you can always use no matter where you play or when you want to enjoy a match. Tennis supplies, including much needed nets, are easy to find for sale online, in discount stores, and sporting good stores. With that said, the type of nets available for sale will vary from location to location.

For hard surfaces, a durable and long-lasting net is best. These strong nets have double mesh at the top, have reinforced cables, and are usually made from braided cord. Despite the pricey costs, they are a wise investment for avid tennis players who have lots of matches or practice sessions.

If you only play tennis on occasion, have an indoor tennis court that is not exposed to varying weather elements, or if playing on a softer surface, you can cut a few corners and avoid spending as much. By opting for twisted cord, instead of braided cord, you get a quality tennis net that you can use and one that costs a lot less.

Cheap nets usually come with lesser quality materials and this is okay if you intend to upgrade or buy a replacement later on. High grade netting has many benefits, including a longer-lasting net and one that looks like new for longer. When a net is exposed to extreme weather conditions outside, a strong and durable net is a must.

It is also important to closely examine the overall components of a tennis net, such as the grommets, cables, and dowels. With substandard attachments, don't be surprised if your tennis net comes loose and starts to sag.

For freedom, a portable net that you can easily put up and take down is ideal. These nets are light and easy to carry, but aren't advised for extended use. However, they work great if your local tennis court has damaged or missing nets. At home, a portable net can also be used for a backup in the event your permanent net is temporarily rendered useless.

A tennis net is an important piece of equipment to play a real game of tennis. Without this net, it will be hard to tell when the ball clears the necessary height. As previously stated, tennis nets are available for sale online and in local sporting good stores, but make sure you buy a net that will last for years.
